Mark: (announcements) SPIE Membership is $20 per year.
Members can get money for attending conferences and can apply for
fellowships. Travel costs can be supported as well. We currently
have 13 members, but 2 more would increase our allowance from $500 to $700 per
year. So sign up if you’re not already a member!
Mark introduces the first speaker in the FP3 series
Arthur Nieuwoudt is
the first speaker.
Title: "Nanophotonic Optical Strucutres for Future Computing Applications”
Ben Appiah is
second speaker.
Title: “Investigation of QCL-based MIR reflectance imaging for
in-vivo tissues”
Mark: T-shirt design, Nate has
suggested polos with SPIE logo instead of T-shirts.
Britain asks if polos are more expensive?
Mark: Yes they are. For polos –
everyone would have to pay about $10 for his/her shirt, in order to make up for
higher prices.
Britain asks how to become a member?
Mark says to become a member, go to SPIE.org and sign up - $20 fee.
Nate asks for speaker volunteers, and suggests adding section on website
to propose ideas for talks.
Mark: agrees with Nate’s idea and says that these (FP3) talks
should not be a repeat of LANP presentations. Talks should be for fun, or
even funny – including historical and/or fun topics.
