The Laboratory for Nanophotonics hosts a variety of events designed to foster collaboration, spark new ideas, and build a strong interdisciplinary community among our faculty, researchers, and students. Our primary event series is the LANP Monthly Poster Session.
LANP Monthly Poster & Brainstorming Sessions
We are dedicated to connecting the vibrant nanophotonics community at Rice. A cornerstone of this effort is our series of monthly lunch sessions, designed to be a dynamic forum for collaboration and innovation.
The Goal: These sessions are not for polished presentations. They are working meetings intended for brainstorming, seeking help, troubleshooting research challenges, and sharing new and in-progress ideas.
The Format:
- Low Overhead, High Discussion: Presenters (typically 5-7 students per session) are encouraged to bring work-in-progress figures, schematics, or a few pages of data to share. The emphasis is on discussion and collaborative problem-solving, not formal delivery.
- Community Feedback: This format allows students and faculty to tap into the LNP network's collective expertise, gaining targeted feedback from the broader nanophotonics community.
- Lunch provided: Thanks to the Smalley-Curl Institute (SCI), pizza and stand-up bites will be provided to fuel the conversation.
Who Can Attend: These sessions are open to all LANP Core and Affiliate Faculty and their research groups. The presenters' roster is organized in advance.
- Core faculty and their groups participate on a regular monthly basis.
- Affiliate Faculty and their groups have the flexibility to join any session that interests them. Groups can schedule a presentation slot whenever they have in-progress results to share or need specific feedback from the community.
